Dark Asylum (2001)

daThe camp value in Gregory Gieras’ “Dark Asylum” is priceless and might have been able to stifle the fun but all things considered it only increases it. There’s the humorous opening as a cop car is chasing down a car with two surprise drivers, hear the screams and are led to a sewer where they find the Trasher’s lair. I was laughing at the notoriously bad acting by the police as they gave some incredibly humorous screams. I was in stitches as you could hear the horrible dubbing over the main character’s daughters voice. Despite all of that, this film has a potential to be a really good horror flick.

Black Hawk Down (2001)

In the movie, a group of soldiers go to a Somolian city to intercept a civil feud going on between rebels and soldiers, but instead of a simple sweep, they are betrayed and ambushed by a huge onslaught of relentless Somolian soldiers who will stop at nothing to kill off the stranded US soldiers. This was one of the many crop of movies that came out briefly after the September eleventh tragedy, and this doesn’t fail with its gushes of patriotism. The movie is stock full of a powerhouse cast of young Hollywood hotshots like Ewan Mcgregor (Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge), Josh Hartnett (O, Halloween: H20), Orlando Bloom (The lord of the rings), and older veteran character actors like Tom Sizemore (Saving Private Ryan, Dreamcatcher), and Ron Eldard (ER, Sleepers). The movie is directed by famed director Ridley Scott (Alien, Gladiator) who gives great dramatic tension with incredible camera angles and action shots.

The Sixth Day (2000)

Ah, I remember the days of Schwarzenegger and Stallone. A time where they ruled the box-office with such hits like “Terminator”, “Rocky”, and “Terminator 2”. Unfortunately, those days are all over, and audiences have become somewhat tired. That’s where this stinker comes in. Wow, this is below the quality of any other Schwarzenegger movie I’ve seen before. It sickens me. First, we’ll start with the plot. This plot is not entirely original, and it leaves a lot of room for the people in this movie to secretly debate on the whether the concept of cloning is playing god or just another step in technology. I found it just plain dull. I didn’t care about anyone in here.

Save the Last Dance (2001)

The movie starts off instantly with The main character Sara on a train heading to Chicago. The director plays it smart by telling us her story through flashbacks. It seems she is a very talented ballet dancer who has a fight with her mother because she can’t make it to Sara’s big audition. The daughter screws up the audition, and while rushing to see Sara, her mother gets killed in a car wreck. We now see Sara who moves to the rough neighborhoods of Chicago with her father Roy. She enrolls in a new school as an outcast and makes friends with the popular girl in school and eventually befriends and falls in love with her brother while learning some new dance moves on the way.
