“With Great power, comes great responsibility.” – Uncle Ben

Superhero and American icon, Spider-man is born finally in the new box-office smash movie directed by acclaimed and cult director Sam Raimi (Evil Dead). In case you don’t know the famous story, Peter Parker, a geeky photographer at his school who is constantly bullied and has eyes for the neighborhood good girl Mary Jane, is bitten by a hybrid radioactive spider on a field trip to a science lab. Shrek (2001)

In the movie, Mike Meyers plays Shrek, a huge green ogre who keeps to himself and lives alone in his swamp home constantly trying to be killed by angry villagers with pickforks, whom he often easily exterminates of. When the evil lord Farquaard played by John Lithgow (Third Rock from the Sun) forces fairy tale creatures off the royal lands, they take shelter in, of all places, Shrek’s swamp. Shrek, so urgent to get the creatures off his home, meets a talking donkey named… Donkey played by Eddie Murphy, and they must go to the palace to make a deal with the lord. But the lord makes a deal with Shrek, instead. He must rescue a beautiful princess named Fiona played by Cameron Diaz. The Sixth Day (2000)

Ah, I remember the days of Schwarzenegger and Stallone. A time where they ruled the box-office with such hits like “Terminator”, “Rocky”, and “Terminator 2”. Unfortunately, those days are all over, and audiences have become somewhat tired. That’s where this stinker comes in. Wow, this is below the quality of any other Schwarzenegger movie I’ve seen before. It sickens me. First, we’ll start with the plot. This plot is not entirely original, and it leaves a lot of room for the people in this movie to secretly debate on the whether the concept of cloning is playing god or just another step in technology. I found it just plain dull. I didn’t care about anyone in here.

Save the Last Dance (2001)

The movie starts off instantly with The main character Sara on a train heading to Chicago. The director plays it smart by telling us her story through flashbacks. It seems she is a very talented ballet dancer who has a fight with her mother because she can’t make it to Sara’s big audition. The daughter screws up the audition, and while rushing to see Sara, her mother gets killed in a car wreck. We now see Sara who moves to the rough neighborhoods of Chicago with her father Roy. She enrolls in a new school as an outcast and makes friends with the popular girl in school and eventually befriends and falls in love with her brother while learning some new dance moves on the way.

Summer Catch (2001)

In the movie, we meet Ryan Dunne, a young baseball hopeful who, along with many others, are hoping to be discovered on the Cape Cod baseball league. While doing that, He is courting the local rich girl Tenley Parrish played by Jessica Biel. But her father will stop at nothing to stand in the way of their love. This is a simple dumb summer film, ergo the title, which is a pretty fun movie to watch….. that’s all. Ahoy, we have another stinker from the depths of teenage heartthrob/ terrible actor Freddie Prinze Jr.

Space Cowboys (2000)

10053432What a colossal disappointment. We have a paper-thin plot, under-acting by the “all-star” cast. The plot is so diluted and plain that it reaches the point of boredom. Eastwood couldn’t save this. You couldn’t have saved this movie if you put Jimmy Stewart in it. It’s also so far-fetched. I doubt NASA would risk the welfare of the earth by putting four old men in space. That’s just plain irresponsible. What was surprising was that the scene I was most looking forward to, The space scene, is the most dull of the entire film.
