Training Day (2001)

It’s Rookie cop Jake Hoyt’s first day on the job and he must now meet up with a seasoned professional the charismatic cop Harris who takes a liking to him and decides to take him on a ride along to show him the ropes of the inner city, but what he has to show young Jake is beyond anything he ever learned in Police Academy. In probably Denzel Washington’s best performance in years, he is phenomenal as the dangerous and sly Harris.

Dark Asylum (2001)

daThe camp value in Gregory Gieras’ “Dark Asylum” is priceless and might have been able to stifle the fun but all things considered it only increases it. There’s the humorous opening as a cop car is chasing down a car with two surprise drivers, hear the screams and are led to a sewer where they find the Trasher’s lair. I was laughing at the notoriously bad acting by the police as they gave some incredibly humorous screams. I was in stitches as you could hear the horrible dubbing over the main character’s daughters voice. Despite all of that, this film has a potential to be a really good horror flick.

Jeepers Creepers (2001)

Two very (and I emphasize the word) VERY stupid kids while on the way to spring break stumble upon a cave decorated with decayed bodies next to an abandoned church , but soon they begin to discover that there’s an evil demonic force behind it. Now the demonic force is after them and will stop at nothing to get what it wants. Every once in a while in a world full of rip-offs, cookie-cutter horrors, and timid supernatural movies passing itself off as horror, a movie comes along and spreads some light on the horror genre, once again renewing my interest and faith in the horror genre. This is one of those movies.

The Glass House (2001)

MV5BMTY3MzA4NzYyOF5BMl5BanBLeelee Sobieski (Joyride, Eyes Wide Shut) plays Ruby, a problematic teen who often takes her parents for granted and has a bad relationship with her brother Rhett. But one night while attempting to sneak into her house, she discovers that her parents have died in a car crash. They then come under the guardianship of what seem like the perfect couple, the Glasses, their neighbors. But what seems to be a perfect life at first turns out to be more than Ruby bargained for. Leelee Sobieski hams it up as the misguided teen / heroine who discovers her new foster parents plot early within the movie.

If I Die Before I Wake (1998)

This is a low budget movie and proves not all low-budget thrillers are bad. I’m still holding my breath from this one. “If I Die Before I Wake” opens on a dark night and starts off very fast with three hillbillies breaking into a house. Quickly they beging terrorizing and torture the poor defenseless suburban family within their home. The oldest daughter realizes her house is being infiltrated early, and hides herself and her little sister, devising a plan to get back at the murderers and defend her house once and for all. “If I Die Before I Wake” is an excellent thriller, mainly for the atmosphere and breakneck pacing.

The 6th Day (2000)

movies-the-6th-day

“The 6th Day” is below the quality of any other Schwarzenegger movie I’ve seen before. This plot is not entirely original, and it leaves a lot of room for the people to debate on the whether the concept of cloning is playing god or just another step in technology. I found it dull.

Felix Vasquez’s Top 10 Horror Movies of All Time

  10. The Creature From the Black Lagoon (1954)
        Directed by: Jack Arnold
The creature is a misunderstood fella; and mostly is considered as the lesser known and all around lesser creature from the Universal monster family because his movies were released later in the monster movie days. However, this film stands as my all-time favorite of the Universal monster series. An archaeological team is informed of a discovery on an island of a fossilized hand from a prehistoric creature. Intrigued, an assembled team of explorers journey to the island to research the hand but arrive to find the village of previous diggers brutally slaughtered by a mysterious animal. What they’ll soon learn is that the creature they’re learning of that was long believed to be dead is alive and living within the lagoons of the island. It soon begins wreaking terror on the crew, and falls in love with the lead explorer’s girlfriend (Julie Adams). I fell in love with this movie when I was a child simply because of the sheer entertainment this movie provides. I love how director Arnold doesn’t show much of the creature until the middle of the film where we’re really surprised to see his appearance as he carries off actress Julie Adams into the water. The monster is purely creepy and very cool, and the entire movie is creepy fun. It was later followed by two sequels which were just as good.
