Gilligan’s Planet: The Complete Series (DVD)

So I guess that’s the answer to any old stale franchise in the old days? Just put them in to space? Josie and the Pussycats went there, and now the gang from Gilligan’s Island. Considered the official sequel, the premise for this series is just as outlandish as the original series. And you have to take it with a grain of salt as well. Logic be damned, rather than build a boat out of the island, the professor builds a space ship. The group manages to get off of the island and find themselves stranded in space! Now they’re on an alien planet coming across all sorts of extra terrestrials while trying to repair their spaceship to get home.

Spider Baby (1967) (2-Disc Special Edition) [Blu-ray/DVD]

If I had to pick a cult film that I’d take with me on a deserted island, it’d either be “Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!”, or Jack Hill’s “Spider-Baby.” It’d probably be the latter if I was pressed. I fondly remember being introduced to “Spider-Baby” as a child, when I used to sit down to watch “Horrible Horror” with Zacharly. I always found the scene of Jill Banner slicing and dicing poor Mantan Moreland to be one of the sickest bits of horror cinema I’d ever witnessed. Years later, I was happy to watch the film in its entirety, and thankfully Jack Hill’s dark horror comedy hasn’t aged a single bit.

Teen Beach 2 (2015) (DVD)

I’m still not sure I enjoyed the way the movie just took us in to a time bending twist in the finale of “Teen Beach 2.” Surely it’s more female driven and based around empowerment by reversing the previous roles, but other than that it brings about more questions than answers, and left me completely baffled. By the way the internet has sparked since the premiere of “Teen Beach 2” I’m not alone in the judgment of how the movie just completely takes us in to a completely new direction. If Mack and Brady’s relationship depended on “Wet Side Story” why didn’t anyone else’s relationships remold?

The Tom and Jerry Show Season One Part Two: Funny Side Up (DVD)

There will never be anyone who can top the original Tom and Jerry shorts, but I’m surprised that “The Tom and Jerry Show” comes shockingly close to the original successful formula. This time, rather than hand drawn animation, we’re forced to endure flash animation, and that’s what holds down an otherwise fun series. What’s the point of flash animation for a tried and true comedy duo? I don’t understand it.

Blacula / Scream Blacula Scream (1972/1973) [Blu-ray]

91H0vXadTZL._SL1500_

You would think in a time where films like “Blackenstein” and “Dr Black, and Mr, Hyde,” that “Blacula” would be one of the worst blaxploitation titles of its time. Despite the title, “Blacula” is actually one of the strongest vampire films of all time, and one of the creepiest of its sub-genre. “Blacula” is a tragic character drawn a victim to his blood lust who begins turning everyone in to his spawn when he finds himself alive in the twentieth century, and it’s a shock to see such an entertaining movie arise from a concept spun off from Count Dracula.

Vampyros Lesbos (1971): Special Limited 2 Disc Collector’s Edition (Blu-Ray/DVD)

Jess Franco’s vampire film genuinely doesn’t live up to the hype it’s garnered with horror and film buffs over the decades since its release. It’s a tedious and often dull affair that manages to numb the sexuality due to its incessant filler. The filler is ever present from the opening shots, and is used to pad the film’s run time, from performances in front of crowds, right down to dream sequences, much of it is used as a tactic to pad a thinly veiled “Dracula” remake.

Looney Tunes Musical Masterpieces (DVD)

Prepare to be schooled in classic music as “Looney Tunes Musical Masterpieces” is an eighteen toon class in some of the finest music. Beyond that it’s also a very fun compilation of the some of the best musical mash ups Termite Terrace has to offer, and you’d be a fool to pass this one up. “A Corny Concerto” garner various short segments including the battle of Bugs, Porky, and his hunting dog, as they outwit one another, and a mother Swan’s attempts to outmatch Beaky Buzzard.
