I set aside everything I was doing when I received this for the simple fact that in spite of being a triple dip, in spite of being a cash grab for fans, in spite of marketing on our anticipation for “The Dark Knight,” this is a marvelous boxed set. Absolutely marvelous. And mind you, I’m a person who hates re-releases and avidly avoids them at every turn. I don’t care how many new features are on a re-release, I’ll avoid it if I’m set with my current DVD purchase. The Limited Edition Gift Set is fantastic, and I think I would love to see this for “Superman Returns” eventually.

Cage Rage: The Superstar Collection 5 Event Set (DVD)
What are you going to get in the three disc five event set of Rage Cage on DVD? You’ll get over twelve hours of MMA battles that feature some of the most brutal and exciting MMA fights for all you MMAniacs, and while normally I’m not much of a fan of this sport, it was almost impossible to pass up an opportunity to see what the big deal is. How can you not enjoy a sport that’s slowly pushing WWE to the side with the help of the UFC as the most popular sports in America?
Birds of Prey: The Complete Series (2002) (DVD)
I can imagine that if there were a commentary for the “Birds of Prey” DVD set, it would begin with “Well… it seemed like a good idea at the time.” And in theory, it does seem like a great concept. After the success of “Smallville” the (then) WB Network tapped the well by digging in to the Batman universe. What with the new franchise being developed how do you work around DC’s ridiculously strict guidelines of not including the same character in more than two property? You make stuff up, and work with what you have. “Birds of Prey” is based on the successful comic book series where Gotham’s girls team up to take on crime. The problem was that audiences just didn’t care for these characters, and what was worse was that well… it sucked. I saw the entire series on the WB Network when it first premiered and I couldn’t stand how awful it was.
Spaced: The Complete Series (DVD)
Hey nineties brats, do you remember the running man? You know what I’m talking about, that dance that’s a mixture of running in place and the moonwalk sans the motion? Well, that’s what I was doing when I received this from Warner. The running man. I thought I’d forgotten how to, but apparently not. “Spaced” finally comes to DVD in the US bringing with it a slew of extras, and some of the funniest comedy in a sitcom that took many years to get to the states.
Warner Brothers Home Entertainment Academy Awards Animation Collection (DVD) (2008)
How do you even describe the riches behind “Academy Awards Animated Collection”? As an animation geek, and a film geek who follow the Oscars, this is such an immaculate and extraordinary DVD set with some of the best animated shorts ever produced. From “Knighty Knight Bus,” to “Superman,” this has some of the best animated shorts ever concocted, and it brings together all nominated shorts, and winners from Warner Bros. with three entire discs. In the discs there are some utterly fantastic attached and optional commentary from Paul Dini who explores Superman, animation historians who discuss Popeye Meets Sinbad the Sailor.
The Smurfs – Season One, Vol. One (DVD)
Donnie Darko: First of all, Papa Smurf didn’t create Smurfette. Gargamel did. She was sent in as Gargamel’s evil spy with the intention of destroying the Smurf village. But the overwhelming goodness of the Smurf way of life transformed her. And as for the whole gang-bang scenario, it just couldn’t happen. Smurfs are asexual. They don’t even have… reproductive organs under those little, white pants. It’s just so illogical, you know, about being a Smurf. You know, what’s the point of living… if you don’t have a dick?
Doctor Who: The Complete Third Series (DVD)
I have to admit that I’ve never been a fan of “Doctor Who.” If you talk to our resident contributor William Garcia, you’ll find a Doctor Who fan who surpasses every other Doctor Who fan before him. But me as a casual viewer found Doctor Who thanks to the Sci Fi channel here in America who broadcast the entire series every week. I was never a fan before so I went into it with a general ignorance on everything associated with the universe and found it entertaining. I thought Billy Piper was a cute heroine, I liked her charm and courage, and I thought she was a great pairing with Christopher Eccleston, my original lure to the series.
