What do you do when the world you’re in is too boring, too stressful, or too miserable to endure? You retreat into your own imaginary world, of course. “Monster Camp” is one of the many documentaries taking off from the ilk of “Trekkies” and “Ringers,” in which we spend a time in the lives of folks who just love their hobby. They don’t just love their hobby, but it’s something of a way of life that manages to have a positive influence on them and everyone around them.

Aladdin (2019): Ultimate Collector’s Edition [4K UHD/Blu-Ray/Digital]
Disney remaking their loose adaptations of classic fairy tales and folklore is their newest confusing trend, and as a behemoth of a corporation they’ll keep churning them out. Because they know audiences will go see them. “Aladdin” banks heavily on the nostalgia of the nineties much like previous Disney efforts. And like previous Disney remakes, “Aladdin” is fine. It’s just fine. I’ve yet to see a Disney live action remake that has completely outshone their original effort; compared to “The Lion King,” Guy Ritchie’s remake is mediocre, time filling fodder and that’s about the best compliment I can give it.
Blind (2019)
An actress who has lost her sight is trying to get back on her feet and make her life as good as possible while adapting to her new situation, her new friends help greatly, but a masked man lurks.

The Shipment (2018)
A man who has turned his life around must make hard decision in his quest to become a better man and to protect his daughter at the same time. This short film is one of the most expensive ones we’ve seen in the last few years and the budget shows. The special effects are on point, the score sounds expensive, if a little familiar, and the film as a whole comes off looking and feeling like something that is part of a much bigger universe. The acting in The Shipment is good overall, with a few scenes here and there that feel a bit off. The visuals are fantastic and show how much of a passion project this was for writer/director Bobby Bala. It’s a fun watch with some deeper issues being approached in a way that is perfect to make some think without even knowing it. The issues at hand are very real and timely.
Tone-Deaf (2019)
After a series of negative events, a young woman rents a house in the countryside to go clear her mind and get ready for a fresh start. Once at the house, the man renting it gets more and more interested in her for reasons that she cannot possibly guess. His mental state deteriorating, he starts putting into action a plan that will take them both down a dangerous path.
Silent Panic (2018)
Friends coming back for a hiking and camping trip find a body in the trunk of their car. Due to one of them having a past that could complicate things, they start debating what to do with the body until their friendship gets truly tested.

A girl tries her best to understand the world around her and how greed and cruelty can lead to people losing everything in her small Wales village.
