With the morbid sense of humor Mark Millar puts on the page with “Kick Ass,” and his propensity for punishing Dave Lizewski at every turn for generally being a complete moron worthy of an early grave, I think this series will finally end with someone shooting Dave in the face and killing him in that stupid costume. And damn it if he doesn’t deserve every thing he gets for being such a brainless imbecile. Sorry, people but Millar’s writing sucks me in so much, I just want to call Dave a stupid whipper snapper and smack him with my cane. I want to kick his ass, as it were.

The Walking Dead #49
For the last time, that’s not zombie Rick Carl is leading on the cover of “The Walking Dead #49.” If Rick was a zombie, he’d be chasing after Carl and trying to eat him, who cares how close he was to him as a human? Either way, Kirkman manages to stir up controversy and heavy debating yet again with this issue, but damn if it isn’t a good one. Kirkman has a lot of questions to answer, and I have a feeling he’s going to in 50, but for all the inherent excellence this issue has, it’s pretty much just filler.
The Walking Dead: Special Edition #1
Do you know that “The Walking Dead” was originally supposed to be titled “Night of the Living Dead”?
Kirkman was so desperate for interest in his idea, that he named the series after the Romero movie. And since Romero’s masterpiece is in the public domain, he could have done such a thing without suffering legal scorn, but he’d have sported plenty of fan scorn. But Kirkman admits it and seems pretty apologetic about it when he discusses the origins of the fantastic horror series from Image Comics. We can relate, can’t we? It’s tough being in any artistic medium, and some of us will do anything to become a success.
Hacking at the Bone: Interview with Tim Seeley
Creator Tim Seeley, a confessed horror geek with a talent for satisfying the horror geeks who flock to Devil’s Due currently announced a pact with the fantastic alt model website Suicide Girls, pairing the eponymous Cassie Hack, with the gorgeous Suicide Goth’s and punks. Seeley, still reeling from the New York Comic Con was kind enough to talk with “Rot Your Brain” and yours truly (a Seeley and Hack/Slash fan) about upcoming issue developments, and what this pact will bring fans of old and new.
So, firstly, thank you very much for agreeing to this interview, Mr. Seeley. “Hack/Slash” is one of my favorite horror comics.
Thanks, no problem!
How did the New York Comic Con go?
Heh, I actually had a pretty miserable time! I had some kind of hellish space virus or something, so I was sick the whole time I was there. Man, nothing is lamer than sitting in a hotel room in Times Square watching AMC. Not to mention that my nose started running like crazy during a video interview! But, I’m feelin’ better now.
Serenity: Better Days #2 (of 3)
Yeah, if we’re supposed to enjoy this new miniseries, then I’m begging Dark Horse to stow these horrible covers. Not only are they completely out of character for the series, they’re also drawn terribly, and bear no likenesses to any of the characters. The cover to issue two has Book and Jayne smoking cigars and buddying it up, while Inara is lying there with a hand fan. It’s ugly, the colors are awful, and adds a camp that this show was never big on. It’s all supposed to be attached to form a fold out of the group raking in the money, but it’s just an eye sore. I’d take cheesy stock promotional photos as covers, over these any time of the week.
The Walking Dead #48
People die. A lot of people. People we’ve grown to love, admire, and were just starting to know.
As always with Kirkman, things I expected were dead wrong, and things I didn’t expect occurred. The irony of course is that Woodsbury does indeed seize the prison, but with the first and second fences down. They’re now officially trapped inside, without an escape plan, and little food. With the outside taken over by the zombies, there’s no room for gardens or fresh air, and Kirkman leaves little options for the people led by the madman of the town.
Serenity: Better Days #1 (of 3)
I’ll tell you what the fundamental problem with “Serenity: Better Days” is, so far. There’s too much fore-shadowing to “Serenity.” There’s so much it became pretty irritating to read at times. Wash makes a hint at the possible getting together of Kaylee and the Doc, and heck even the cover has Wash and Zoe holding hands. We know what happens in “Serenity,” there’s no need to keep connecting the dots to remind us this is a sequel to “Those Left Behind,” and the second part of the comic book prequel… you follow?
