The PC Thug: You Can’t Keep a Good Zombie Down

PCThug-logo

Okay, so I know not everyone enjoyed “Land of the Dead.”

Many people I spoke to during the time of its release seemed to hate it, though I persisted in my thoughts that it would eventually gain appreciation, much like “Day of the Dead” eventually did. I fondly remember many people telling me that “Day of the Dead” was a terrible film back in the early nineties, and now it’s considered a classic. Even director George Romero considers it his favorite.

Our Top 5 Television Shows of 2013

Admittedly we’re not big TV watchers these days. We’re mostly fans of “Seinfeld” and “The Simpsons” re-runs, and whatever movie is playing on Syfy in America, but when we do watch, we’re very selective. Most popular shows these days just aren’t appealing to us. But out of the small portion of shows that we do watch, we decided to list five of the series in 2013 that kept us watching and wanting more.

The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 1: 30 Days Without an Accident

With safety breeds complacency and unfortunately when we meet the survivors in “The Walking Dead” season four, not only have they built a world in the prison, but they’ve become complacent. Worse yet, Rick Grimes has now become complacent. Or so he’s told himself time and time again that the world outside has been somewhat dominated, thanks to their defeat of the Governor. They may have won the battle with the Governor, but the war has yet to end, and the group has yet to figure out what will happen if Phillip Blake returns in full force, prepared to slaughter the prison village.

The Walking Dead: The Oath [Web Series]

TWD_S4WebisodeWide

It’s a small world, after all! Set immediately after a zombie siege on a survivor camp, Karina and Paul flee from a horde of the undead. In a scenario similar to the episode “Wildfire” Karina and Paul decide to escape the clutches of the dead. Little does Karina know that her only surviving companion Paul is bleeding to death from a mortal wound during combat. Ashley Bell and Wyatt Russell give solid and compelling performances as the pair of survivors sticking to their own oaths that could guarantee them survival. They both want something different and have varying outlooks on the new world ahead of them. Karina is hopeless and lingering on the edge of insanity, especially when she discovers Paul is bleeding badly.

The Walking Dead: Season Three [Limited Edition Aquarium Tank] [Blu-ray]

The-Walking-Dead-Season-3-L“There’s an economic concept known as a positional good in which an object is only valued by the possessor because it’s not possessed by others. The term was coined in 1976 by economist Fred Hirsch to replace the more colloquial, but less precise “neener-neener.””

One of the main aspects of the limited edition set, is that you really have to read the directions. I know, it’s just common sense, but when you’re opening the box to this and looking through the contents, you don’t really expect a directions slip. My first problem: Would it have hurt them to include batteries with the set? Hell, I would have shelled out a few more dollars for the sake of it.

You have to buy four AAA batteries, and if you can manage to crack open the lid on the bottom, it’s a great pay off. The tanks slide out from the set very easily, and the lids come off allowing you to adjust the zombie heads in whatever order you want. There are pegs behind the heads with springs on the back allowing them to hang there, but they’re invisible. Especially when you turn on the light.

The Walking Dead: The Complete Third Season [Blu-Ray]

TWD3“You kill or you die. Or you die, then you kill.”

In Season Two of “The Walking Dead,” Rick Grimes and his fellow survivors found out that they’d convinced themselves they’d found an untouched part of the world that was safe from the walking dead. In the end of Season Two, Rick Grimes learned many things about this new world. He learned that the walking dead are everywhere, and that human beings are just as deady–maybe even deadlier–than the walkers that roam around. His experience with the nomads at the bar, and his experience murdering his best friend turned Rick in to a man who will do anything to survive.

The Walking Dead: A Hardcore Parody (2013)

yzkqIMqAs a hardcore geek of Robert Kirkman’s “The Walking Dead,” the cover for Burning Angel’s parody of the show is incorrect and irritating. They mimic the poster for season two of the series, and feature most of the cast on Dale’s RV, and yet instead of Dale, we have Michonne in his place. I’m sure it was never their intention to have a bowl hatted seventy year old getting in to a threesome with Michonne and Andrea, but I’m sure there could have been a better way around it. And a “The Walking Dead” porn version without a XXX Maggie performer? Missed opportunity, Burning Angel. Joanna Angel does star as Lori, so it’s not a complete loss, all things considered.
