The Walking Dead: Season Three, Episode One – Seed

When we saw Rick Grimes and his group at the beginning of “What Lies Ahead,” they were trying to prove to Doctor Jenner that there was something worth living for out in the zombie apocalypse. Maybe if they kept going, they could show that there was salvation. And then basically they took salvation and destroyed it. Jenner was right. In the opening of “The Walking Dead” season three entitled “Seed,” there really hasn’t been any progress.

Roseanne: Tricks & Treats (DVD)

roseanneThe Halloween episodes of “Roseanne” are probably some of the best moments on the series and very much a part of the tradition of ABC sitcoms to embrace Halloween as a fun and festive holiday. In the nineties, many ABC shows had Halloween specials. “Full House” had a few, “Family Matters” had some, and of course, “Home Improvement” often rivaled “Roseanne” in the Halloween department with their own hilarious specials celebrating the Halloween holiday. “Roseanne” however had a more home grown atmosphere toward their Halloween episodes, and most of them are absolutely entertaining. Much like the entire series, as the Halloween episodes go on, they utterly diminish in quality, but they’re still a wonderful tradition of the series.

Forensic Speak: How to Write Realistic Crime Dramas [Paperback]

The lovely Jennifer Dornbush has written one of the few manuals for writing that I tore through in a matter of hours. “Forensic Speak” is a painstaking guide for screenwriters, and authors of all kinds who want to write a crime or detective novel, but don’t know all of the terminology that comes with the profession. Writing a novel or screenplay without knowing the terminology not only immediately removes all believability from your story, but is distracting to the viewer or reader who may know more than you do, in the end. I assumed “Forensic Speak” would be three hundred pages of endless terms and definitions, but Ms. Dornbush structures the book to where anyone seeking a reference for a particular terminology can find what they’re looking for.

Roseanne: The Complete Sixth Season (DVD)

68390One of the many things “Roseanne” Season Six has going for it is the casting of Michael O’Keefe as Jackie’s love interest Fred, who is the often mild mannered and funny boyfriend who is mostly played to react off of the dysfunction and lunacy of the Conners most times. It’s a shame O’Keefe was never brought on to be a permanent cast member like Johnny Galecki or Glenn Quinn, since the character’s mild temperament makes for some instant laughs. This season is much more a shift as the series continues its glimpse in to dysfunction and family pain while also shifting the cast yet again.

The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Fifth Season (DVD) (2011)

“The Big Bang Theory” is currently my favorite sitcom on television and in its fifth season, it’s managed to show that its characters have evolved greatly since the pilot. Only four years ago, the series was very much about four geniuses who learned how to socialize thanks to their sexy and ditzy neighbor. And now in its fifth season, the characters have grown, changed, and evolved.

The cast grew from an original five in to seven characters, and the once womanizing obnoxious Howard Wolowitz is a man on the verge of marriage and experiencing a major step forward in his career as an engineer. As with all the seasons of the series, this season is ripe with geek references and major geek guest stars, and it doesn’t let its fan base down a bit.

Our Fucking Thoughts on Holliston

There seems to be a lot of penis envy when it comes to the success of “The Big Bang Theory.” If you’re not a fan you’re either someone who hates the show outright for being a success, or you’re someone who thinks you can do a better geek show. “Holliston” is the latter part of the aforementioned sentence. “Holliston” is essentially “The Big Bang Theory” but with horror fans instead of fan boys and geeks. It seems Adam Green is one of the many individuals who think they know what the perception of a fan boy is better than the people behind the hit show “The Big Bang Theory,” thus we have this series.

Roseanne: The Complete Fourth Season (DVD)

r4Season Four is the darker times of the series where the characters would all learn to take more serious roles in their lives. While “Season Four” is the darker more dramatic time of the series, it’s still one of the best times of the show where the reality of owning a business in this economy would soon rear its ugly face and affect the Conners, leaving a giant rift between them by the time season five will roll around. This time around Darlene develops from a rambunctious tomboy in to a depressed high schooler who is trying to find her way in the world.
