Five Great Video Game Movies You Can Watch Instead of “Pixels”

We loved the original short film “Pixels” when we first saw it and were not surprised that its adaptation from Happy Madison is being pulverized by movie critics. It’s been torn to shreds by gamers, critics and Sandler fans across the board, not surprisingly, and while we haven’t seen it, we thought we’d share with you five movies you could watch instead of “Pixels.” If you don’t want to see another Adam Sandler cash grab, feel free to buy/rent any one of these five video game centered movies that pay tribute to video games while entrenching audiences in their universe.

Or go watch the Sandler movie. Who cares? I’m not your father.

Five Things “Star Wars: Rebels” Has Done Right

No matter how many times I swear off of Star Wars, I just keep managing to go back to it. I can’t help it. I’ve been in love with the mythos since 1998 when I saw it in all of its original glory on my cousin’s old VHS box set, and it’s had a hold on me. Since Disney bought the franchise a few years ago, it’s managed to accomplish so much with the stagnant series, and I’m glad we’re seeing forward motion in the right direction with the narrative. The Expanded Universe is gone, there are more movies on the way, and “Star Wars: Rebels” has been a wonderful precursor to he new trilogy. Aside from being fun, exciting and compelling, it’s also helped improve what the prequels damaged. The show has a ton of great qualities but we settled on five major accomplishments it’s brought to the table. Here are five things the series has done right.

Five of the Best Christine Cavanaugh Performances

It’s really heartbreaking to learn that a great talent, and a great person passed away. Before the end of 2014, it was announced that Christine Cavanaugh passed away at 51. She retired from acting many years ago, but was known by many nineties children, and animation buffs as the voice of many interesting and peculiar characters that helped create fond memories for many children around the world.

Top 5 Baffling Aspects Of “TMNT: We Wish You a Turtle Christmas”

There are no weapons, there’s no fighting, no Shredder, no April, no Casey, and no foot clan. And those aren’t the worst crimes this monstrosity commits. This is the definition of a quick cash grab. I am quick to believe someone raided a storage closet from a party entertainers’ warehouse, and decided to release their own Christmas themed Ninja Turtles video. Even at eleven years old, I would have shut it off after the first few minutes. “We Wish You a Turtle Christmas” doesn’t even last longer than twenty five minutes in length, and still feels long as hell.

The plot to this anomaly is that the turtles are trying to find a present for Master Splinter. So they prepare for Christmas, and go looking for a perfect present. Cue the mind numbingly terrible cash grab that is “We Wish You a Turtle Christmas.” Here are five of the more head scratching aspects of the twenty minute “special.

Five Friends Episodes Worth Watching

I don’t really understand the “Friends” nostalgia, since its aged very poorly since its days in the nineties. Even the episodes in the early aughts vary from mediocre to awful. But I’d be lying if I said I was never a “Friends” fan. In fact I used to watch the show religiously despite the main characters being woefully unlikable. Let’s face it, they are. Rachel is so despicable, it’s a wonder Ross chased after her for so long.

In either case, “Friends” is making its way to Netflix in January, and its loyal fan base are awash with excitement, so here are five episodes from the series that are still very funny and worth sitting through. They also require little to no knowledge of previous storylines. What are your favorites?

Season One of “The Strain” is finally here, and after a pretty good run on FX in America, its mixed bag first season is ready for consumption. Perhaps it plays better as one fluid marathon, but as a week after week series, it garners a lot of filler, some really inconsistent direction, and a crew that can never be sure if they want to embrace the vampire formula, or ignore it altogether. “The Strain” is a fine horror series, just a very mixed bag that will frustrate as well as entertain. What Our “Awesome Mix” Playlist Would Look Like

Next month is the release of the blockbuster action film “Guardians of the Galaxy,” and it’s every damn bit as great as you’ve heard. It deserves its high praise and big box office. One of the key elements of the film that make up the character of Star Lord is his mixed audio cassette “Awesome Mix Vol. 1” which includes his favorite songs from the mid seventies to late eighties from when he was a child. It’s the sound track that is the icing to an already fantastic film. Like every other music lover we have our own list of songs we’d include in an “Awesome Mix,” so without further ado, here’s our playlist.
