If you’re a viewer of the horror channel Chiller here in America, you may have remembered that the channel played a promo for their TV movie “Dead Souls” all the time. In fact for three months whenever I watched the channel, I was inundated with promos for the movie four times per commercial break. For a channel based around syndicated shows, there are a lot of commercial breaks, too. Finally watching “Dead Souls” I’m shocked the channel would provide so much hype for such a half baked and painfully boring horror drama that fails as horror, drama, and supernatural entertainment.

21st Century Barry (2013)
Who among us hasn’t been there? We buy a new computer part, we begin hooking it up, and for some reason the back of our desk has become the amazon filled with a slew of rubber wires that look like vines. But really, who wants to spend all their time sorting wires and color coding them? I sure don’t.
Stoker (2013)
Gifted auteur Chan-wook Park has made his US cinematic debut with “Stoker,” a film that is easily one of the most brilliant horror films of 2013. Park is one of the few Asian imports that’s managed to really debut with a bang, and “Stoker” shows that Park is well worth making it to the states. As well, he has potential to deliver a high pedigree of genre films if he has the chance.
Decadent Evil (2005)
Hey did you see “The Vampire Journals” from Full Moon? Yes? Well, prepare to watch it again, but in a ten minute nutshell version. On par with much of Full Moon’s corner cutting productions, “Decadent Evil” is mostly just nothing but filler, with clips to the days of Full Moon Entertainment when they were actually trying. “Decadent Evil” is barely eighty minutes in length, and counting the opening clip show, and credits, it’s only about an hour of actual movie. All of which is contrived and based heavily around the hope that you’ve seen and remember “The Vampire Journals” fondly.
A Haunted House (2013)
It’s almost as if Marlon Wayans, the least funny Wayans brother (which isn’t saying much) decided he wanted to get out of the shadow of his big brothers and siblings, and just made his own comedy movie. Since the “Scary Movie” brand is now someone else’s property (since that series is so genius), we now have “A Haunted House” a movie so bereft or wit or actual comedy, that it’s embarrassing. But Wayans himself seems intent on going his own way and forming his own comedy niche. And he fails. Wayans only really works well under the guidance of someone who knows what they’re doing. Or (in the case of the “Scary Movies”) have some idea of what they want to accomplish in the arena of comedy.
Sharknado (2013)
Tara Reid. Killer Tornadoes. Man eating sharks. Sooner or later, someone was going to combine them to form the sweet piece of junk food cinema known as “Sharknado.” The Asylum almost seems proud of the title, flaunting it in film festivals and even presenting the title in big bold silver letters in the opening credits. With a title like that, you don’t even need to hear what it’s about. You just need to know that Ian Zeiring kicks ass. Who could resist this opportunity?
