X-Men: First Class (2011)

While I did ultimately enjoy “X-Men: First Class” as a film, I found myself giggling at the very opening. I found myself giggling for the simple fact that we finally are given a biographical detailing of Magneto. You know, the one we were supposed to get with a feature film but never did? I love how the writers manage to sneak in his biography while also chronicling the story of two powerful gentlemen with vastly different ideals. Because at the end of the day, the real story behind “X-Men: First Class” is the brotherhood of ideas, and the views on mankind that separate us in spite of common goals.

It’s become a genre onto itself, and most times can be a platform for fan boys who happen to be creative filmmakers. The character of Wolverine has always been a hard sell for yours truly. As a comic book superhero, Wolverine has always been one of the more overrated in Marvel Comics in spite of his rabid following. Wolverine’s progression from this tier villain to top tier superhero has been nothing short of remarkable, so when he received his own spin off that unfolds to tell his story once and for all, I was quite confused. The entire “X-Men” film franchise have already been nothing more than vehicles for the Wolverine with the X-Men taking nothing more than a supporting status to what he can do on screen. We’ve already had three Wolverine films, did we really need to see another with the furry one front and center? Yes and no.

Hulk Vs. (2009) (Two-Disc Special Edition DVD)

Hulk-VsIt only stands to reason that Marvel would create such an unusual pairing of short films based around two of Marvel’s flagship characters. What with the Hulk smashing the box office, the development of a “Thor” film, and Wolverine being granted the lead in a new series and a series of action movies, it suddenly comes to mind that these pairings aren’t so odd after all. Once you break it down to its core, it’s really Marvel testing the waters for the fan boys and girls yet again. And if you’re not over thinking things like moi, there’s always the possibility that Marvel just wanted to get three of the greatest Marvel heroes and make them go one, two smashing the Earth and spitting blood in a stand off that only exemplifies the appeal and why my local DVD store had to restock every week since these movies premiered on shelves across the nation.

Our Top 10 Minority Superheroes

Whether “Hancock” ends up as a fantastic attempt at creating a franchise around an original hero, or just a pure messy product of a big star known for hits like “Wild Wild West” and… ugh… “Men in Black” will be irrelevant in the end. Because even after the receipts have been counted, the message is loud and clear. “Hancock” is a try for a superhero that’s anything other than Caucasian. In a season of comic book movies where all the major men in tights are white, “Hancock” seems to be Will Smith’s own Superman. It’s his superhero.

And that inspired this new list. Our top 10 Minority Superheroes. Most of whom could make for some interesting movies. Oddly enough I had a tough time finding great minority superheroes, wouldn’t you know it? I could have opted for more Asian choices but they’re already quite prominent in comics and pop culture with the same glut of stereotypes, but with much more accessibility. Hispanic and African American Superheroes, though? The pot strains it thin, but I was up for the challenge.

X-Men 3: The Last Stand (2006)

My antipathy and scathing skepticism at the fact that FOX would hire hack Brett Ratner to direct one of my favorite comic book franchises of all time hasn’t exactly been a secret for all this time. I hated the fact that Ratner was given resources to potentially destroy my beloved storyline, and I was not looking forward to this. Even with the fact that Ellen Page was cast, I didn’t find anything worth being impressed about with Ratner’s alterations of the series I loved. “X-Men: The Last Stand” is supposedly the “last” film in the X-Men franchise; of course all the fans know its complete bullshit. “The Last Stand” is the final film in the “X-Men” franchise like “The Final Chapter” was in the “Friday the 13th” franchise.

X2: X-Men United (2003)

In one of the most anticipated movies of 2003, we join the mutant superhero team from the hit comic, the X-men yet again from the throws of the surprising hit from 1999. In this one, after a coordinated attack on the president by a mutant terrorist, William Stryker, a mysterious military operative who has been doing reconnaissance on the Xavier mansion has discovered secrets within the house along with secrets on the students that attend the school. He convinces the president to let him and his army raids the mansion despite the arguments by Senator Kelly. After the X-men learn about the new mutant’s presence, they decide to travel across country and discover it, while Logan, back from his journey of discovery, baby sits all of the students for the night.
