The Flash/Arrow Crossover

The benefit of the “Arrow” and “The Flash” two night crossover, is that it emphasizes the contrast between both shows. While “The Flash” is a hit series, and a spin off of “Arrow,” it’s also much lighter, brighter, and action packed than “Arrow” which bases itself on a darker more revenge fueled storyline. Though the Greg Berlanti fueled shows have made it clear they’re one in the same and will crossover from time to time, the contrast between two shows in the crossovers is made perfectly clear in this event. It may allow audiences to ultimately decide which series they prefer, or if they want to stick with both. I’m choosing both, even though “The Flash” has won me over in a season while it took “Arrow” to win me over by the end of season two.

Tusk (2014)

tusk

With “Tusk,” director Kevin Smith completely rips off Stephen King and Tom Six, mixing together “Human Centipede” and “Misery” in to one really awful concoction that I was barely able to make it through. Serving as a simultaneous ad for his crappy podcast, this time rather than James Caan as a respected writer, Justin Long is an amoral moronic podcaster whose own celebrity status has transformed him in to a fame obsessed pseudo-Howard Stern. Much like Kevin Smith. I can only laugh at Smith’s self-congratulatory inference that today’s podcaster is the modern storyteller like the writer. But hey, at least he got to squeeze in obligatory cameos from his and Johnny Depp’s daughter.

5 Reasons Why You Should Buy “The Strain: Season One” and 5 Reasons Why You Should Pass

Season One of “The Strain” is finally here, and after a pretty good run on FX in America, its mixed bag first season is ready for consumption. Perhaps it plays better as one fluid marathon, but as a week after week series, it garners a lot of filler, some really inconsistent direction, and a crew that can never be sure if they want to embrace the vampire formula, or ignore it altogether. “The Strain” is a fine horror series, just a very mixed bag that will frustrate as well as entertain. Here are 5 Reasons to Buy and 5 Reasons to Pass On Buying “The Strain” Season One.

What Our “Awesome Mix” Playlist Would Look Like

Screen-Shot-2014-10-21-at-6.28.48-AM

Next month is the release of the blockbuster action film “Guardians of the Galaxy,” and it’s every damn bit as great as you’ve heard. It deserves its high praise and big box office. One of the key elements of the film that make up the character of Star Lord is his mixed audio cassette “Awesome Mix Vol. 1” which includes his favorite songs from the mid seventies to late eighties from when he was a child. It’s the sound track that is the icing to an already fantastic film. Like every other music lover we have our own list of songs we’d include in an “Awesome Mix,” so without further ado, here’s our playlist.

Let us know the songs for your “Awesome Mix” in the comments!

Our Top 5 “Married… with Children” Episodes

MarriedWithChildren1

Nineties nostalgia is big money now, and it seems like every studio are trying to continue what fans once thought were completed franchises and television series. Supposedly, there’s a sequel to “Married… with Children” in the works, focusing on Bud as a married man in a dead end job. I don’t see how that could possibly work, especially with Christina Applegate, Katey Sagal, and Ed O’Neill going on to new things, the latter two of whom have either come off or are still working on hit series of their own.

In either case, we spotlighted five of our favorite episodes from the hilarious sitcom about a blue collar family and their perpetually miserable lives.

Remembering “Surface”: Sea Monsters, Dragons, and Lake Bell

Surface1

“Surface” is the definition of a series with a one note concept that would have worked much better as a mini-series when all is said and done. Around the mid-aughts, NBC television began working their way in to science fiction and began airing the quite ambitious “Surface.” During 2005, ABC’s “Lost” was taking America by storm and dominating pop culture with its mysterious storylines and baffling plot twists, so every network attempted to build their own franchise in the same vein. “Surface” is a valiant attempt with misguided writing.

And yes, I sat through the whole thing.

The Rover (2014)

rover

If there’s anything more I love than post apocalyptic films, its post apocalyptic films with substance and meaning to them. “The Rover” is a slow boil drama thriller set in Australia where the continent has now economically collapsed. Set ten years after an apparent apocalypse, Australia is the Wild West where law is so corrupt that its citizens have zero respect for those in blue. Director David Michôd thrives on ambiguity by introducing a cast of characters with their own moral codes that conflict with everyone else’s. “The Rover” garners nothing but slime balls and the amoral, but that doesn’t stifle the utterly compelling storyline.
