With the new direction the DCAU is taking, it only makes sense for them to finally veer in to the world of the Super Sons. For a few years now, Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne’s sons have been the most unlikely popular duo. Warner and DC even welcome them in to the fold of the DC Animated library with a full CG animated movie rather than hand drawn. I much prefer hand drawn, but the CG animation works wonders for the high energy first adventures of Jonathan Kent and Damian Wayne. In either case, “Battle of the Super Sons” is a great buddy action movie, and it’s a coming of age action film featuring two legacy heroes that have a big task on their hands.

The Munsters (2022)
I’ve always fancied myself more of an “Addams Family” fan but I have great respect for the “Munsters” franchise. It’s a shame that Rob Zombie, the professed horror fan has so oddly botched his one attempt at reviving the “Munsters.” Zombie has the golden opportunity to really reinvigorate the Munsters for a new generation and drops the ball for what I can only describe as a disaster of a reboot.
Maika: The Girl from Another Galaxy (2022)
During a meteor shower, a young girl from planet Maika falls to Earth. In her quest to get back home, she becomes friends with Hung, helps him get more friends, go on adventures, and mend his broken heart.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022)
After the surprise success of “Sonic the Hedgehog” it’s fun to see our blue hero get his due after so many years. While the series isn’t quite perfect, once it hits its highs, it’s fun, funny, and filled with some well directed action. For the follow up the natural progression is the introduction of Sonic’s famed video game sidekick Tails, along with their classic video game nemesis Knuckles. While “Sonic 2” is a great follow up, it has a severe problem with its human characters.
Salma’s Home (2022)
Three women find their lives thrown together after the passing of one man. As things go from bad to worse, they are forced to work together to make ends meet.
Encanto (2021)
I am elated that Disney and Piax have begun finding the value in and delving in to tales that revolve around people of color. There’s so much rich heritage in the latinx community involving spirituality, honor, love, and the power of family. There’s so much amazing folklore that could really stand to be passed on to a new generation of movie lovers with great respect as presented in “Encanto.” Although it’s primarily about a Latinx family, it’s deep down about generational trauma, and the burdens that our elders can place on the youth, whether they realize it or not
Hotel Transylvania: Transformania (2022) [Digital]
After four “Hotel Transylvania” movies it’s pretty obvious that by now, even Genndy Tartakovsky. I think despite his name being plastered all over this new sequel that he probably didn’t have much to do with its creation. Now that the series is four movies deep, along with a short lived TV series, “Transformania” feels so much less like a high stakes sequel, and a lot more like an extension of the TV series. Watching it, it felt like the studios merely took four scripts for the cancelled series, and stapled them together to create this hodgepodge adventure.
