There’s a joke in this movie somewhere. I’m just not sure where. It’s not a bad movie by any means, but for a short film that identifies itself as a comedy, I kept wondering when the punch line would come. It’s a pretty good and well directed short film, but I’m still not sure what the joke for “High Bid” is, in the end. Is it the final scene? The preparation for the date? The mom’s oblivious tendency to help her daughter? Does the mom know about the daughter’s auction?

Pint (2013)
Jackson is the classic wedding guest from hell. He’s immature, rude, obnoxious, and doesn’t mind interrupting a sweet moment during a wedding to let out a bored groan. After making an ass out of himself during the wedding ceremony, he hides at the bar during the reception to drink a pint and then ventures over to his girlfriend and her dad to share a few with them.
Bazookas: The Movie (2009)
If you loved films like “Porky’s,” or “Hot Resort,” then Michael G Leonard’s indie exploitation comedy is right up your alley. It’s as if someone took a script from 1983 and fitted it for modern times, without trimming any of what made eighties films so much damn fun. The gratuitous nudity, shameless innuendo, busty babes running around and frolicking, and the plot of the underdogs battling an evil corporation for control of a community, it all here and then some. You know where the director’s head is when the prologue of the film begins on a racquet ball match between a gym owner’s son and a gorgeous woman and ends on her topless and smashing her chest in to a glass window.
Rudyard Kipling’s Mark of the Beast (2012)
It’s a testament to the talents of directors Jon Gorman and Thomas Edward Seymour that they can transplant a Rudyard Kipling horror tale in to contemporary America, and still derive a creep or two. Though “Mark of the Beast” seems like another cabin in the woods horror tale on the surface, deep down it strives to break any conventions, and brings about a unique disgusting monster among a small group of friends.
Horror Anthology Movie Volume 1 (2013)
What with the welcome renaissance of the anthology horror film, indie filmmakers are pooling their resources to deliver films that can showcase everyone’s talents while entertaining an audience. “Horror Anthology Movie Volume 1″ is by no means a masterpiece, but it’s a very solid horror film with directing and storytelling that’s above par in comparison to many other anthologies I’ve seen in the past. Composed of six short films sewn together as one movie, “Horror Anthology Movie Volume 1” attempts to side step common horror tropes in favor of something new and unique.
Sexual Dysfunction (2013)
Director Jacob Viness definitely has some interesting directorial skills, displaying the madness about sexual addiction and what chaos it can wreak. Director Viness spotlights a young man named Paul who is hopelessly addicted to sex to where it’s painful, often ending in nights spent with diseased prostitutes and strangers he meets on the streets. He’s anxious to find a way to end his suffering and find a path in life, and through this he uses his religion to help him on his path. But that’s where the narrative goes off the rails, unfortunately.
Sparks (2014)
Director David McCool’s short horror film is a nice and clever little interruption of reality, that explores the idea of alternate states and the paradoxes of time. McCool plays a man at his computer who gets a mysterious call, and is disturbed by a sudden power outage. In an effort to test out a new odd device in a socket, he is electrocuted, and awakens to learn he’s facing an enemy he never expected.
