Director/Writer Sarah Young commits to what is a great horror thriller that many fans will likely connect with big time. “Not Him” is a tense and anxiety ridden horror thriller that works very well in mixing in horror with what too many have experienced in their lifetime. I was very much enamored with how many themes and the sense of ambiguity that Writer/Director Sarah Young is able to integrate through to the very end.

Hide Your Crazy (2023)
Director Austin Kase’s short horror romance is a premise teeming with feature potential. I could have literally watched two hours of this back and forth between the two characters stuck in this tragic romance. “Hide Your Crazy” is a film very much in the vein of “My Demon Lover” channeling a lot of that late 1980’s camp and genre mixing amounting to some top tier entertainment all around.
Printer Head (2023)
Director Frances McIlvain’s short horror film turns the work environment in to a veritable hellscape, lensing his film very much in the vein of early David Lynch. Filmed through very murky black and white, “Printer Head” watches like an office drones bad dream and it never stops being a royal mind fuck.
Hanky Panky (2023)

It takes a special kind of balls to make a film so utterly abstract and bizarre and not pay the cast. But the press release insists that “nobody got paid” therefore they must have had a lot of faith in this project. Lindsay Haun and Nick Roth’s horror comedy is a weird cabin in the woods sitcom that pits a bunch of new age yuppies against a weird evil force. This force involves a sentient talking handkerchief, a supernatural fedora and a main protagonist who has an encyclopedic knowledge of finer materials and clothing fabrics.
Graphic Sexual Horror (2009) [Blu-Ray]

One of the bigger surprises of 2009 was “Graphic Sexual Horror” a documentary that pegs itself as this extreme movie about sexuality. In actuality, Barbara Bell and Anna Lorentzon’s film ends up as this very complex and interesting study on fetishes, S&M and torture. The whole concept of “Graphic Sexual Horror” came at an interesting time when America was still reeling from the Abu Ghraib incident, prompting us to take a good look at the darker side of our sadistic tendencies and personal accountability.
The Spider (2023)
Andy Chen’s “The Spider” could be appreciated as a multiverse interpretation where the story of Spider-Man is not about a superhero but a body horror tragedy. “The Spider” is basically “Spider-Man” as told by David Cronenberg and takes all the basics of Peter Parker’s tale and transforms it in to a gruesome genre hybrid. With the excellent prosthetics and make up from Alen Stubbs, he and Chandler Riggs help to realize a slick and entertaining take on Spider-Man that is pitch black in tone.

Although Lindley Farley’s crime thriller was filmed in 1998, it feels so much like a displaced hidden gem that feels like it was made in 1978. It often watches like a gritty entry from William Friedkin or Don Siegel (I mean that as a compliment). It’s pretty awesome how well directed and composed “The Bulls’ Night Out” is as it’s teeming with top notch collective talent as well as an engaging narrative. “The Bulls’ Night Out” is that classic crime thriller about aging crime fighter trying to adjust to a new world where crime is much different than it was when they were younger.
