Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Even with Marvel now owning Disney, and “The Avengers” making money hand over fist in 2012, “Agents of Shield” is still a risky spin-off. So the writers have to basically depend on lip service to “The Avengers” without depending on it wholesale. Even with the fan loyalty Joss Whedon sports with all of his series, “Agents of SHIELD” is a risky venture. They’re still third tier characters in the movies, and the last time we saw them in on TV, they were being led by David Hasselhoff and battling an evil bouncing ball. So, the series does everything it can to ensure audiences this is a Marvel universe series, without seeming similar to other shows about big agencies.

5 Shows We're Not Afraid to Admit We're Nerdy About

TMNTI often get the “Really? You like this?!” response whenever I speak about my enjoyment for Disney shows. You know what? Some people watch reality shows to pass the time, I watch Disney sitcoms and cartoons to escape from reality, and it offers some genuinely good laughs and entertainment. You’re only as old as you feel, and I am very experimental when it comes to kids’ shows. They’re not always winners, but when I hit one that entertains me, I tune in regularly. These are five we love without shame.

Heavy Nova (2013)

heavynova

I really enjoy the fact that director Peter Leon has access to these incredible special effects, and pretty much just stages a murder mystery aboard a space ship. This premise could have been set anywhere, and that’s why the movie is so fun and creative. The humor doesn’t always land, but when it does, it’s pretty good. The special effects for the most part are spectacular (including the green screen), and I enjoyed how the establishing shots in space put you in the atmosphere of this science fiction comedy.

Revolution: The Complete First Season [Blu-ray/DVD/Ultraviolet]

revolution-s1It still baffles me that a show about the end of the world doesn’t focus on the obvious suspects this would affect the most. The poor. I mean the impoverished and hungry were always impoverished and hungry. Wouldn’t they perhaps become better survivors, or masters of whole villages? Wouldn’t they rule legions of nomads? No, instead our main characters are a bunch of Caucasians, with the occasional minority. And they were all filthy stinking rich. Well, middle class anyway. The characters who first knew about the black out basically had a luxurious apartment with their toddler playing on Apple technology for fun. Then suddenly everything went black.

The Amazing Bulk (2010)

600full-the-amazing-bulk-screenshot

The only way I can come to grips with the fact that “The Amazing Bulk” actually exists is that someone on the cast or crew needed to pay off their gambling debts for a violent loan shark. They were faced with paying off their debts but couldn’t really afford it. So, in order to prevent getting hurt or murdered, they whipped together a movie out of Windows 95 clip art, Microsoft Paint, an old HD camera someone owned, and a lot of green screens in under a week at the director’s loft somewhere in California. They were able to get it out on the market to pay their debts, and now we’re stuck with this festering pile of unwatchable crap called “The Amazing Bulk.”

Captain Battle: Legacy War (2013)

captainbattlefeatured

Every time I think there isn’t a studio as shameless as The Asylum, someone inevitably steps forward and proves me completely wrong. “Captain Battle” is about a star spangled super soldier who fights the Nazis during the war adapted from a public domain character who is already a Captain America knock off. It’s not Captain America. Repeat. It’s not Captain America. From the makers of the cinematic masterpiece “The Amazing Bulk,” this complete and utter rip off of a certain star spangled superhero is so shameless, Marvel should sue only for how inept the movie is.

My Top Ten X-Men Characters Of All Time

X-Men1This year marks the 50th anniversaries of the X-Men and The Avengers. So to commemorate my love for the X-Men, I thought it’d be fun to count down my top ten X-Men of all time. This is my top ten X-Men and the characters that keep me coming back to this intelligent and wonderful franchise throughout the late eighties and the nineties.

Who are some of your favorites?
