With the CW’s “Smallville” (thankfully) dead and buried, “Arrow” just seemed to be the next step for the network. Green Arrow was one of the most popular elements of the later episodes of “Smallville,” thus Green Arrow is given center stage. Except, the producers make the wise decision of setting aside the bland Justin Hartley for the charismatic and often dazzling Stephen Amell. Fans of DC know the basics of the Green Arrow legend, and the character isn’t entirely an icon, so the writers are free to take liberties. And I’m quite happy that those liberties result in quite an entertaining and exciting Green Arrow adaptation.

Butcher Boys (2013)
“Butcher Boys” is one half “Judgment Night” and one half of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” but in an urban setting. With a rash of disappearances occurring all over the city, two groups of people find themselves lost in the ghettos of an urban neighborhood. After a prank goes awry, two young men get beaten and killed by three psychotic armed thugs. The group that inflicted the prank realize too late that they’ve come across a lethal and dangerous group of kidnappers, many of whom are taking tourists and locals hostage for nefarious purposes.

The Fugitive (1993) [Blu-Ray]
In a decade where Hollywood was adapting literally every classic show from the sixties, regardless of the format, it’s still surprising they not only got the formula right for “The Fugitive” but turned it in to an Oscar Caliber thriller. Twenty years later, “The Fugitive” is still a tense and gripping adaptation that’s set the template for many future on the run films. Harrison Ford is no stranger to films where he’s put at wit’s end by an unforeseen circumstance, but as Richard Kimble, the casting is brilliant.
Day Of The Dead (1985) (Collector’s Edition) [Blu-ray]
“I’ll set us down. But I won’t leave my seat and I’ll keep the engine running. Now the first sign of trouble, I’m going up. If you ain’t on board when that happens, you’re likely to have a lousy afternoon.”
A deserted metropolitan lingers in the tropics, signs of turmoil and carnage still linger. Garbage is strewn about, shadows wash past walls, and piles of money brush in to the air like hurricanes, unclaimed, and now merely just paper. After calling out to the city with a bullhorn looking for survivors, there is an answer, but not the answer Sarah and Miguel were looking for. From the corners of the city, the walking dead begin seeping in. The air is no longer filled with sounds of the ocean, but of the horrific moans and shrieks of the dead. The darkness is now filled with the motion of dozens of shambling corpses, and for miles all the pair could see are the cold, pale, snarling faces of defeat slowly creeping in on the couple, hungry for their flesh.
The Walking Dead: Season Three [Limited Edition Aquarium Tank] [Blu-ray]
“There’s an economic concept known as a positional good in which an object is only valued by the possessor because it’s not possessed by others. The term was coined in 1976 by economist Fred Hirsch to replace the more colloquial, but less precise “neener-neener.””
One of the main aspects of the limited edition set, is that you really have to read the directions. I know, it’s just common sense, but when you’re opening the box to this and looking through the contents, you don’t really expect a directions slip. My first problem: Would it have hurt them to include batteries with the set? Hell, I would have shelled out a few more dollars for the sake of it.
You have to buy four AAA batteries, and if you can manage to crack open the lid on the bottom, it’s a great pay off. The tanks slide out from the set very easily, and the lids come off allowing you to adjust the zombie heads in whatever order you want. There are pegs behind the heads with springs on the back allowing them to hang there, but they’re invisible. Especially when you turn on the light.
The Great Gatsby (Blu-ray+DVD+UltraViolet Combo Pack) (2013)
While many may criticize Baz Luhrmann for his rapid fire and somewhat gonzo directorial style, his sense of glitz and glamour works wonders for the tale of the rich and wealthy, and the one man who had it all, but could never quite grab a hold of what he really wanted. Luhrmann’s film is gorgeous and often times dazzling to behold, and it suits the aesthetic of the story of a young country boy named Nick seeking to strike it rich through business who is wooed and romanced by the rich and ridiculously well off. At first what seems like a fun bit of escapism, soon becomes the realization that the characters Nick surrounds himself with do nothing but escape from life.
