I often get the “Really? You like this?!” response whenever I speak about my enjoyment for Disney shows. You know what? Some people watch reality shows to pass the time, I watch Disney sitcoms and cartoons to escape from reality, and it offers some genuinely good laughs and entertainment. You’re only as old as you feel, and I am very experimental when it comes to kids’ shows. They’re not always winners, but when I hit one that entertains me, I tune in regularly. Heroes of Cosplay
In spite of Syfy’s best efforts, “Heroes of Cosplay” is one of the least melodramatic reality shows I’ve ever seen behind the “Debbie Does Dallas” reality show. Geek culture is huge now, and every network is aiming to market on the fact that the fan boys and pop culture buffs really dominate the scope of fiction and media right now. Syfy has tried time and again with varied results, and so far “Heroes of Cosplay” (a kind of spin off of the cosplaying portion of “Comic Con Episode IV”) is the best, and most entertaining.
Marvel's Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.
Disney and Marvel presents “Hulk and the Agents of Merchandising Possibilities”! Demonstrating the same business model as their rivals at the Cartoon Network, Disney and Marvel’s fusion has guaranteed all the former Marvel shows scrapped in favor of more juvenile and louder action shows. ‘”Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” was taken off in favor of the less complex and more action friendly “Avengers Assemble,” and now Marvel has given Hulk his own vehicle.
Our Top 5 Favorite Power Rangers Series
This year, Power Rangers celebrates its twentieth anniversary. The legions of fans that have been watching since 1993 are reveling in the success of the Saban fueled series that has gone on for many years. Hell, even Shout! Factory is releasing a deluxe 98 disc set featuring the first twenty seasons.
I was fortunate enough to enjoy the craze of Ninja Turtles and watch as Power Rangers was also ushered in to take our attention, and for many years I watched Power Rangers religiously. I still am very fond of the series, and watch whatever iteration is on. It’s always been a fun and exciting bit of fantasy fare for kids and teens, and I may just tune in for the upcoming twentieth season.

Monday Movie Pause: The Sci-Fi Channel Circa 1995
I don’t care if I sound like an old fart, but the Sci-Fi Channel In America was better back in 1995. Before they dropped the Science Fiction theme, they were a fun and unique channel that aired many incredible forms of science fiction entertainment. Hell, at one point they even played cartoons weekday mornings in the science fiction mold. Back before cable became a leader in entertainment, channels had to get creative in their entertainment, and the Sci-Fi Channel was creative, weird, and most times a lot of fun to experience.
This extended promo often ran on the Sci-Fi Channel in the nineties and encapsulated how fun the channel once was and will never be again.
Beware the Batman
No longer just a channel that plays cartoons non-stop, the Cartoon Network here in America now only really airs series that make returns on their investments. When not buying cheap animated shows from Canada, the Cartoon Network looks for shows that will garner profits from merchandise only. After their entertaining “Green Lantern” series and the critically acclaimed “Young Justice” failed to show a profit, the Network cancelled both series and replaced them with two substitutes guaranteed to make money. The first was a watered down version of their aught hit “Teen Titans,” and the next is yet another animated series starring Batman.
Taken (2002)
The 2002 Spielberg fueled mini-series “Taken” is one of the few mini-series I’ve ever watched two times in a row. It’s at least fourteen hours in length. And I watched it two times in a row. “Taken” is just that good. The epic mini-series aired in the summer of 2002 on the Sci Fi Channel here in America, and on the 25th anniversary of “Close Encounters of The Third Kind.” While Science fiction was never really my niche as a pop culture fan, “Taken” is a whole new level of the genre that defies any and all conventions. It’s a mini-series that doesn’t just build up to something humongous, but it leads somewhere pretty incredible.
