Fantastic Fest 2019 has come and gone once again and we were lucky enough to take in some of their line up from this year’s festivities. There was some damn good short films at the fest this year, and we thought we’d spotlight the line up that played as “Fantastic Shorts,” “Short Fuse,” and were “Paired Shorts” with feature films in the festival. The festival had no shortage of genre shorts; if you’re ever near a film festival or are attending one, be sure to look out for these titles.

Usher in Halloween with “You’ve Got Red on You 2020”!
Last year we gave you “Laid to Rest” actor Nick Principe, director Gigi Saul Guerrero, and a bunch of great folks who looks amazing playing with blood and being mischievous.
This year, to raise up the bar, we got you cult icon Tiffany Shepis (Tales of Halloween, Tromeo & Juliet, Killer Kate, and so many more), Mia Paige (Tiffany’s daughter, Model Hunger, Tales of Halloween), groundbreaking director/actor Adam Green (Hatchet series, Holliston, …), the one and only Arwen (no last name necessary, like Cher, but it really is Green, cute pup, superstar, #cultofarwen), and Heather Murphy (Black Devil Doll, social media darling).
Of course, a few of last year’s favorites are also coming back including Jamie Farthing, Tomas Navarro, and Mr. Ghost.
Last year’s debut calendar was carried at Dark Delicacies in Burbank and online in various locations, this year’s is available online as a pre-order with physical shops coming soon!

Hellarious (2019)
In this anthology, seven short films are gathered together to create a fun, humorous, and bloody collection. The short films included here are Killer Kart by James Feeney, Horrific by Robert Boocheck, ‘Till Death by Jason Tostevin, Death Metal by Chris McInroy, Bitten by Sarah K Reimers, Born Again by Jason Tostevin, and Lunch Ladies by Clarissa Jacobson.
The films included here are all high production values short films with some hitting better than others. Of course, as they are festival circuit darlings, some of them have already been reviewed at Cinema Crazed. So let’s start with those and their previous reviews.
Bloodline (2019)
For Evan, family comes first. He is ready to go to extremes to make sure of that for his family and that of others. As things evolve, it becomes clear that this is something in his blood.
3 From Hell (2019)
The third installment in the Devil’s Reject trilogy (or the House of 1000 Corpses trilogy?), 3 From Hell picks up from where The Devil’s Rejects left off and makes sense of connecting that ending with making a third film. Here the Rejects escape jail and go on the run until bad people catch up with them. Who’s the worst bad guy and best killer? It’s up the audience to decide.
One Cut of the Dead (Kamera o tomeru na!) (2017)
It’s really tough to discuss Shin’ichirô Ueda’s excellent horror comedy “One Cut of the Dead” without completely deflating its sheer brilliance for someone that’s never seen it. The less you know about the premise going in to “One Cut of the Dead,” the more you’ll likely be very entertained by what unfolds. I knew almost nothing but the bare essentials and by the time the credits rolled, I was ready to put it in my top ten of 2019. Spoilers ahead.
It: Chapter Two (2019)
Stephen King is an author that never goes away even when he’s experienced something of a renaissance in pop culture. King’s “It” remains one of his most iconic and easily digestible novels, but peculiarly a book that needs drastic alterations to make it more palatable for film. Andy Muschietti had a bonafide challenge on his hands to deliver a two part film that confronted the terror of loss of innocence, and confronting the demons of the past. It all invariably comes dropping down on the Losers Club with the help of the mercilessly vile Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
