The Walking Dead Season Two, Episode One: What Lies Ahead

What we see in “What Lies Ahead” is a group of people trying to prove someone wrong. At the end of the first season they were told by Doctor Jennings from the CDC that there is nothing in the world, and there is simply no hope. Which is why he attempted to commit suicide with the group aboard.

But the end of the episode showed that they were all willing to fight for their lives because there was hope. Hope had to mean something to him and to them. What we witness in “What Lies Ahead” is a group on the raggedy edge where they’re now laying witness to the wasteland where all hope is lost.

But damned if they’re willing to admit to one another and to themselves that they were perhaps better off dying in a ball of flames at the CDC. What Rick’s dilemma ultimately is in this episode is a man searching for a miracle.

Lemonade Mouth (2011)

One of my misapprehensions going in “Lemonade Mouth” was that ultimately the film would serve as a function to promote the lovely Ms. Bridgit Mendler. And while yes that is true, “Lemonade Mouth” holds true to the characters’ ideals that this is a group story about a group of people who come together to make some damn fine pop music and as such while Mendler is the spotlight player (being Disney’s now go to gal for a franchise), she’s not the highlight. Why did I watch this? Admittedly for Hayley Kiyoko who above all is one groovy mama jama whose own life is like a rock fantasy. Thankfully, she’s also not the sole highlight of the film.

Turtles Forever: Director's Cut

turtles_foreverIf you’re one of the kids who grew up during the golden age of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when they were all that any kid in their right talked about, then this form of nostalgiasploitation is one you’ll have a damn good time with. For anyone hoping to re-live their youth while also looking in to what the current incarnation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are up to, the best form of marketing for all the audiences of this franchise comes in the form of “Turtles Forever,” a reality bending, genre twisting mini-movie that works as a satire on the eighties series, a tribute to the current incarnation and a respectful nod to the classic Turtles.

Supernatural: The Animation

With anime fare like Witch Hunter Robin and Hellsing, it seemed only obvious and a no brainer that “Supernatural” would translate on to the anime format. It’s such an easy fit that you’d smack your head for not thinking about it. “Supernatural The Animation” is essentially like any other supernatural anime series. Two individuals with sordid pasts are hunting monsters for a living and along the way get themselves in to trouble. Except with this adaptation it’s so seamless it’s quite startling to behold.

5 MTV Shows Worth Watching

4402237202_b49cd04549I am by no means a proponent of MTV. I hate the channel and I hate the institution with a passion. They have turned America’s youth in to mush and exploited it for the sake of increasing their stock. When they’re not chronicling the lives of paper bag brown pieces of Jersey douches, they’re sensationalizing the lives of preteen skanks now in over their heads with kids. Shocking enough most of these girls are Southerners. Then there are shows like Cribs where you’re supposed to feel bad for being poor, Skins where MTV just pushes the line of child porn every single week, Pregnant and 16 the prequel (yay?) to “Teen Mom” where young skanks are pregnant, and it just keeps going on.

Viva Attack!

Is it as good as it used to be? No, but is it the bottom of the viewing list as it used to be? Nope. Now with a new co-host, a new set, a clear idea on who the hell they’re trying to target for an audience (for a while they weren’t sure if they were appealing to nerds, tech geeks, or frat boys), “Attack of the Show” is on the right track once again. I can fondly recall Kevin Pereira interviewing a celebrity back in the middle of 2010 during the rut and asking them, “So what is it like to be on a show people actually watch?” And it’s an apt observation.
