If you’re going to go out, go out with a bang. The fifth season of “The Twilight Zone” is the final season of the legendary horror anthology show. Incidentally it’s also the season that features some of the best and most incredible episodes of the series ever made. It’s by far some of the best television ever produced, and it’s here for the taking. Reading down the list of episodes on the back of the DVD I was ecstatic to re-visit some of my all time favorite episodes of the series, many of which have influenced me for many years.

The Walking Dead: Season Three [Limited Edition Aquarium Tank] [Blu-ray]

One of the main aspects of the limited edition set, is that you really have to read the directions. I know, it’s just common sense, but when you’re opening the box to this and looking through the contents, you don’t really expect a directions slip. My first problem: Would it have hurt them to include batteries with the set? Hell, I would have shelled out a few more dollars for the sake of it.
You have to buy four AAA batteries, and if you can manage to crack open the lid on the bottom, it’s a great pay off. The tanks slide out from the set very easily, and the lids come off allowing you to adjust the zombie heads in whatever order you want. There are pegs behind the heads with springs on the back allowing them to hang there, but they’re invisible. Especially when you turn on the light.
Heroes of Cosplay
In spite of Syfy’s best efforts, “Heroes of Cosplay” is one of the least melodramatic reality shows I’ve ever seen behind the “Debbie Does Dallas” reality show. Geek culture is huge now, and every network is aiming to market on the fact that the fan boys and pop culture buffs really dominate the scope of fiction and media right now. Syfy has tried time and again with varied results, and so far “Heroes of Cosplay” (a kind of spin off of the cosplaying portion of “Comic Con Episode IV”) is the best, and most entertaining.
Five Reasons Hollywood Should Never Listen to Fans
I’m not saying Hollywood always knows what the hell they’re doing. But most of time their liberties can do good things for some franchises and properties. The “Lord of the Rings” movies are generally accepted in spite of the fact that they cut out whole characters, and invented sub-plots. And despite the authors hating them dearly, “Willy Wonka” and “Mary Poppins” ended up becoming iconic cinematic masterpieces. But then again we’ve also had “Daredevil,” “Batman & Robin,” “Green Lantern,” and “Elektra,” so you have to take the good with the bad.
Adaptations should be made with an appeal to the fan base and a broader audience, and though Hollywood needs to be called on their bullshit more times than not, listening to the fans for ideas is also a bad idea. It’s the worst idea possible. Fan boys should be given their fix, but never allowed behind the curtain to decide on the recipe. If so, we’ll have thirty fan boys going to war on including the Extended Universe in the new “Star Wars” movies, and arguing about who should play Green Lantern next. It’s an endless pool of petty, annoying shit. Placate them, but never give them power.
Monday Movie Pause: 75 years of Superman!
It’s no surprise that we’re humongous Superman fans. We have been for twenty five years. This fun and wonderful video exemplifies why we love Superman, through the good and the bad. And why we’ll be fans of his for many more years to come. Happy Birthday, Superman!
Cockneys vs. Zombies [BluRay/Digital Copy] (2013)
One of the more refreshing aspects of “Cockneys vs. Zombies” is that there is no doubt what the monsters in this movie are. They’re zombies plain and simple. When our band of mismatched degenerates we call heroes exit their bank heist to find a band of cops slaughtered by the walking dead, they only wonder what the monsters lurking about are until character Katy proclaims “They’re zombies.” It’s so easy to figure out, and thankfully we don’t spend twenty minutes figuring out what they are, and the moral ramifications of ending the havoc of one of the undead.
