The Walking Dead: A Hardcore Parody (2013)

yzkqIMqAs a hardcore geek of Robert Kirkman’s “The Walking Dead,” the cover for Burning Angel’s parody of the show is incorrect and irritating. They mimic the poster for season two of the series, and feature most of the cast on Dale’s RV, and yet instead of Dale, we have Michonne in his place. I’m sure it was never their intention to have a bowl hatted seventy year old getting in to a threesome with Michonne and Andrea, but I’m sure there could have been a better way around it. And a “The Walking Dead” porn version without a XXX Maggie performer? Missed opportunity, Burning Angel. Joanna Angel does star as Lori, so it’s not a complete loss, all things considered.

Song of the South (1946)

21343

It’s become well known that Disney has an immense history with creating some of the most racist characters of pop culture. There’s their noted hatred toward the Jewish religion, and even the infamous lyric to “Arabian Nights” in “Aladdin” that reads: “Where they cut off your ears if they don’t like your face,” and that film came out in 1992. But many of them are considered rather irrelevant when you bring up the name Uncle Remus.

Springbreakers (2013)

I was really worried that director Harmony Korine would reach the lower depths of Larry Clarke levels of exploitation with his dramatic crime thriller “Spring Breakers.” But thankfully, while “Spring Breakers” is often exploitative and completely gratuitous, it succeeds in also exploring the recklessness of youth, and the ticking clock that will inevitably catch up to four young women convinced they have life in their hands, that will more than likely blow up in their faces.

Top Action Stars – 8 Movie Collection (DVD)

For the hardcore action buffs, Mill Creek Entertainment offers up an eight pack from fans of Jean Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal, and Dolph Lundgren. While a few of the titles are from their days of box office domination, the rest of the films are their more recent action adventures with one word titles to present a vague idea of what the movie entails.

Van Damme stars in “Universal Soldier: The Return,” the 1999 sequel to the classic action film where Van Damme must fight new soldiers in the form of Michael Jai White and wrestler Bill Goldberg. Though not as beloved as the original, it’s still a pretty decent follow-up. “Knock Off” stars Van Damme as a fashion designer who has to team up with Rob Schneider to uncover an illegal crime ring in the fashion world.

The Twilight Zone: The Complete Third Season (DVD)

Tb75dbvAs a hardcore “The Twilight Zone” fan who spent his but every new year in front of the television watching twenty four hours of Rod Serling’s iconic series, I have to say that season three of “The Twilight Zone” is among some of the best television ever produced. It’s also some of the most brilliant genre entries you’ll ever find. Let’s face it, there was never anything like “The Twilight Zone” and there never will be again. With stars like Carol Burnett, Cliff Robertson, Leonard Nimoy, Robert Redford, Charles Bronson, Elizabeth Montgomery, and Dean Stockwell appearing in some truly noteworthy installments, this is a season set absolutely worth owning.

Fangoria Presents: Inhuman Resources (2013)

gWqZNAUAfter “Saw,” you could basically build an entire sub-genre around horror movies involving a group of strangers whom wake up in an abandoned location and endure a painful series of trials that teach them some lesson and reveal secrets. Thankfully, director Daniel Krige’s film “Inhuman Resources” (once known as “Redd, Inc”) works because it’s not only unique in its delivery of the premise, but darkly funny, too.
